Not as popular as RUSH, not as revered as Saga, and certainly not as obscure as FM. Canada has had the gambit of prog-rock acts and Max Webster is one of them. They may have stuck around for just one album too long, but they are very much worth your time. If you’re new to the band and are looking for a place to start, I believe the albums at the top of this list will give you the best footing.
5. UNIVERSAL JUVENILES

Check is the only song worth your time. Yes, RUSH is on here for one song. The poor bastards. Skip this one.
Best song: Check
Review Score: 1.5/5
4. MUTINY UP MY SLEEVE

I admit to only being in like with Mutiny Up My Sleeve instead of in love. Still, you have an amazing band if your fourth-best album is as good as this. It is really only a portion of the back half that slows down for me. Some people love Waterline. I’m not one of them, lol
Best Song: Astonish Me
Review Score: 4/5
3. A MILLION VACATIONS

Their best-selling album has some big hits on it like A Million Vacations, Let Go The Line, and Paradise Skies. I find they don’t gel with some of the ‘album tracks’ making for a somewhat uneven listen. Still, I can understand if this is a favourite for some. Very much worth your time/money/and eardrum damage.
Best Song: Let Go The Line
Review Score: 4/5
2. MAX WEBSTER

The band’s 1975 debut album is one part prog, one part hard rock, and one part AOR. You’d think this mix of genres would make for an uneven listen but they make it work. The heavy Frank Zappa influence that can be heard here was abandoned on later projects, which almost makes this the most Max Webster album ever.
Best Song: Toronto Tontos
Review Score: 4.5/5
1. HIGH CLASS IN BORROWED SHOES

Quick and to the point, this album sounds like prog-rock and plays like hard-rock as it clocks in at 38 minutes. Waiting for Words to Words build to something is the only slight weak spot on this otherwise flawless album.
Best Song: Gravity, American Veins
Review Score: 5/5

Max Webster

Mutiny Up My Sleeve
A Million Vacations
Live Magnetic Air
Universal Juveniles
Diamonds Diamonds
The Party (Box Set)
Very difficult to rank those last 3. But I’m on board with this.

Yeah, they are all of high quality. I may look back on this list in a year or two and want to flip them around.

Great stuff MarsMan. 4 out of 5 Webster albums that you liked as that’s a decent score thats for sure. As I told you before, glad you are back writing…

Yep, that’s not a bad ratio. Those four albums have become some of my all time favorites.

I love album rankings!! And the worst one is the one I have so I agree with that one whole-heartedly!! I’ll check out #1…cover reminds me of Slade.

It does have a Slade vibe! I’ve never thought of that before. Apparently, they just stopped in at a thrift store and grabbed whatever for the photo shoot.

This is a group I’m not very familiar with, I’ve heard bits and pieces but never a full album. The top few sound like stuff worth exploring. Nice list, rankings are always fun.
